Dr. Bruce Walker, Lansford Professor of Leadership and dean of the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri-Columbia, has been named the 2008 recipient of the Manuel T. Pacheco Academic Leadership Award. Walker will be honored at a dinner held in conjunction with the University of Missouri's Leadership Development Program on Sept. 22.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – How much a particular hill of beans is worth may depend on who’s counting the beans. When it comes to accounting standards in the business world, every bean counts, but the quality of financial reporting differs from country to country. In a recent study, a University of Missouri researcher found that uniform and strict auditor enforcement may be more important than a country’s accounting standards, and the quality of reporting can affect the whole economy.

The School of Accountancy at MU’s Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business, ranked ninth in the nation in faculty productivity, according to Academic Analytics. To compile the rankings, the company reviewed 375 institutions and more than 160,000 faculty members. Their method, they say, is “the only objective measure of faculty productivity.”

In BusinessWeek’s recently published annual rankings, the University of Missouri’s undergraduate business program in the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business took a step up from last year. The BS BA program was ranked #76 among undergraduate programs, compared to #84 in the previous year. Mizzou’s program is in the top one-fifth of all accredited programs in the U.S., is #34 among public universities, and ranks fourth among Big 12 institutions.
