School of Accountancy Achieves Comprehensively High Rankings


2010 Public Accounting Report (PAR) rankings.  The results of the 2010 PAR 29th annual professors' survey show that the University of Missouri is ranked #18 in the nation for Top 25 Graduate (Masters) programs and #18 in the nation for Top 25 Undergraduate Programs as well.  Additionally, in a classification by size (i.e., number of faculty), Missouri (which is in the Group II category of “mid-size” schools) places in the Top 10 nationally.  Specifically, Missouri is ranked #4 for Top 25 Undergraduate Programs and #5 for Top 25 Graduate Programs in that size category.  Our Ph.D. program places #24 in the research category.

Academic Analytics research productivity rankings.  Another important development is the recent research productivity ranking of 9th in the nation, as reported in the Chronicle of Higher Education. The ranking is based on a comprehensive analysis of disciplines in over 300 universities by Academic Analytics, an independent consulting firm. For accounting, the rankings were based on actual publications during the period 2003-2006.


Brigham Young University (BYU) research productivity rankings. In a separate study, researchers at BYU examined accounting research productivity for the years 1991 through 2010.  Their database tracks publications in the 6 top-tier research journals (AOS, CAR, JAE, JAR, TAR, RAST) plus the 5 section journals of the American Accounting Association.  This database contains ranking by area, methodology, and individual faculty.  In the overall category, Missouri ranks #13 over the past 6 years and #22 over the past 12 years.  In addition, the productivity of Missouri Ph.D. graduates ranks #18 for the past 6 year period.

CPA exam pass rate rankings.  Based on the latest National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) 2010 Report on Candidate Performance on the Uniform CPA Examination, which provides reports and commentary on the 2009 CPA exam, University of Missouri School of Accountancy graduates continue to perform at an impressive level on the CPA exam.  Specifically, for the 2009 calendar year, the University of Missouri's CPA Exam pass rate for first-time candidates with advanced degrees has been ranked #14 in the nation.  This ranking was achieved with a pass rate of 70.79% for passing all sections among candidates with advanced degrees.
