Dr. Xinran (Joyce) Wang joined the Trulaske College of Business as an assistant professor of management in 2018. Joyce’s research takes a behavioral and cognitive approach to firms’ socially irresponsible actions, negative social evaluations and impression management strategies. Within these areas, she explores the effects of social media, national animosity and nationalism on social disapproval toward multinational firms and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. Her dissertation, titled “Three Essays of Negative Social Evaluations and Impression Management in the Social Media Era” most recently won the Strategy Research Foundation 2016-2017 Dissertation Grant, Strategic Management Society Best Paper Award at the 2017 annual conference, Academy of Management Social Issues in Management Division 2017 Best Student Paper Award and the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation 2017 Best Dissertation Award.
Joyce received her Ph.D. in strategy, entrepreneurship and organizations, with a minor in statistics and econometrics from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee. She taught international strategic management courses in the University of Tennessee. Prior to her Ph.D., she studied finance and strategic management in the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong, and worked for a top management team of a family business. She plays violin in her free time.
